Prosesor Untuk Server (processors For Servers) – The way Intel and AMD’s latest CPUs stack up shows how competitive the server market is.

Once a scarce and expensive resource, computing power is quickly becoming a commodity with many of us carrying more in our pockets than we can use, and businesses can get what they need. , on demand, from the public cloud.

OK, that’s not entirely true: the local data center is far from dead and most businesses still invest heavily in high-end server and processing technology. But here, too, the power supply program is effective. This was demonstrated by what happened next – or did not happen – following the Skylake update of Intel’s high-end Xeon processor series earlier this year.

The way these things have always worked in the past is that Intel announces a new processor or an intermediate update and vendors simultaneously launch servers based on the new technology. And, to begin with, what appears to be happening when Intel releases Skylake Xeons, with all the big names providing support with rapid press reports and analyst opinions that drive out benefits and markets possible.

But then came a new trend, with AMD choosing to re-enter the server market for the first time in a decade with the EPYC 7000 processors. Additionally, AMD announced before the launch of Skylake, which create an understanding of media rumors about how they can compare and what impact it can have on the market.

But that was back in July and, although both devices were released in full, servers based on Skylake Xeons took years to appear, while EPYC-based solutions were slowly out of the blocks.

There have been exceptions, not least OEM vendor Supermicro, which broke ranks to deliver motherboards for both devices at launch. This allowed us to look at the servers built around the new silicon, courtesy of the European distributor Boston Limited, who invited us into the labs to see how they measure up.

A Tale Of Two Server Processors: Intel Xeon Skylake Sp And Amd Epyc 7000 Series

We were able to get up close and personal with the two new servers, starting with Boston-based Intel’s Fenway 2144-0T equipped with two Skylake processors – now officially the Xeon Scalable Processor family. Those in the review system are Xeon Gold 6132 processors (14 cores / 28 threads) although the motherboard can accommodate any variant up to a maximum of 28 cores / 56 threads per socket that supports the Intel model.

The new chips must be large, requiring a new socket design and a new chip (C621) to provide access to 48 PCI-E lanes and 24 DIMM slots that can be configured with up to 3TB of ECC DDR4 RAM. Memory is also accessed in 6 memory channels that provide 1.5 times the bandwidth of servers using previous Xeon E5 processors. In addition, Skylake processors also benefit from support for the new 512-bit Advanced Vector Extension (AVX-512) instruction set – something that is not available on AMD alternatives.

The Boston Fenway 2144-0T has dual Skylake Xeons with up to 28 cores per socket and 3TB of DDR4 RAM.

It is also important to note that the power and cooling requirements are increased compared to previous generations of Xeons. The 6132 cores in the server we reviewed, for example, draw 140 watts each rising to 205W on the top Skylakes. On the plus side, the Fenway 2144-0T has the power and cooling to handle this, but in high winds it can be a problem.

The AMD server we looked at is the Fenway 2264-0T, a 2U system with, again, two main sockets, this time for EPYC 7000 Series processors. Based on the same Zen technology as the desktop Ryzen processors, these consist of four silicon dies per processor with eight cores per die, or 32 in total – four than Intel’s Skylake. Each core can run one or two hardware threads, but no other chipset like the EPYC has a sophisticated system-on-a-chip (SoC) with additional logic built into the automation package.

The smallest EPYC processor (EPYC 7251) has only eight cores, although our review system has a range 7601 variant with a full 32 cores (64 threads) per socket.

The Boston Fenway 2264-0T holds two AMD EPYC 7000 processors with up to 32 cores per socket and 4TB of DDR4 RAM.

As well as more design, AMD processors can access more memory than Intel’s. To this end the Fenway 2264-0T has 32 DIMM slots for up to 4TB of DDR4 RAM with eight memory slots per socket. The EPYC architecture also supports 128 PCI-E lanes per socket, although 64 of these are used to communicate with other devices so there are still 128 in total on the motherboard dual-socket socket.

Dell Server Processors

AMD processors also have lower TDP requirements compared to Intel chips, doing over 180W per socket at the high end.

So, with Supermicro and Boston it’s business as usual following the launch of a new processor. However, when it comes to the big guns of the enterprise server market – Dell EMC and HPE – it’s a different story. Despite their promises of early support, Skylake servers were not available from any vendor on Intel’s launch day, and were only just beginning to get into the hands of customers. Moreover, products based on AMD EPYC have been, until recently, completely absent from the main lists.

This used to be the case with Dell EMC, but as this article was being prepared HPE finally launched an EPYC product in the form of the Proliant DL385 Gen10. Expected to ship before the end of the year (some six months after AMD’s launch), this server replaces the previous AMD Opteron model with specifications similar to the Boston Fenway 2264-0T.

Despite that announcement, news of AMD seeking to take server market share from Intel has not been forthcoming. None of the vendors are directly promoting technology or positioning different devices based on performance alone. In fact, the power of inventory is being taken for granted and played with as retailers look for other ways to position their products in a market where inventory is not a scarce resource.

Boston and HPE, for example, both see EPYC’s large scale as a shoe-in for companies looking to bolster their server numbers through expansion. HPE also makes a big play on security for all of its servers, especially the DL385 Gen10, offering memory and VM encryption capabilities on AMD EPYC processors.

Otherwise, the way Intel and AMD’s latest processors have been put together shows that vendors understand that the server market is becoming increasingly complex. Computing power is becoming a commodity resource and increasingly available through the cloud, so enterprise customers won’t automatically upgrade to a new silicon or change processor vendor without good reason. Server vendors will obviously need to work harder if they are to stay in the game.

Why this issueServers play an important role now in today’s business. Services are an integral part of any business IT department as it stores, processes, and integrates information, applications, and programs for a particular business. Servers are basically those hard drives that store all your data securely and efficiently across different connected networks.

Although there has been some debate as to whether the Xeon server is better than regular server processors. Many people have their own opinions about Xeon servers that xeons are not integrated with graphics. Well, it gives you the best option where you can set your design through the network itself. People don’t really know how effective and efficient Xeon servers can be. We will share it with you.

The new Xeon gives you the best performance where it is specially designed to have a complete server with the best storage solutions that surpass the usual processors in terms of performance, endurance, and efficiency. It basically stands out for the following 5 reasons.

Newer Xeons are known for their ECC RAMs that provide excellent memory for the processor. ECC stands for Error Correction Code which by
